PUNO
Location: 1320 km. Southeast of lima
Altitude: 3827 m.s.n.m..
Access::
• Air: there are daily flights to Juliaca (1 hour and 45 minutes approximately) and other flights from Arequipa (45 minutes: approximately).

• Overland: Tren: departing from Arequipa to Puno.
Puno on the edge of the Titicaca, the most navigable and highest lake of the world. The city of Puno is considered the folk capital of America because of its 300 typical dances.
Puno is located on these cold high plains at 4000 m.a.s.l. the city also known as the land of camelidae, was the home of the Tiahuanaco culture many thousands of years ago. Puno together with Arequipa became the main textile center of alpaca fibers. Many interesting places surround the lake and the city. The average temperature is 8 ºC (19ºC top and 2ºC minimum).

PLACES TO VISIT


TITICACA LAKE:
ten blocks from the main square of Puno one can find the highest navigable lake of the world. From the lake port of Puno, one can begin some excursions to the islands.


One of the most important points of the South American continental. This wonderful lake connects Perú and Bolivia. The lake houses a great number of animal species: birds and fish. The totora, an edible plant used to build floating islands, houses and ‘Caballitos de Totora’ (typical boast is the most representative.

TOURS


UROS FLOATNG ISLAND:
Chucuito bay. Set of islands made from totora 20 minutes away from Puno by boat. Which are currently inhabited by the Aymaras the villagers fish with rustic met and live in huts.


TAQUILE ISLAND
35 km. east of Puno. Beautiful view of Pre Inca ruins. The islanders keep their ancestral tradition; Taquile on the other hand is the center of the lake. Four hours from the city of Puno.

Their inhabitants speak Quechua (the language of the region) and not Aymara. For tourists that want to Stay over, in the island there is not any noise, policemen, electricity or dogs. We recommend taking the challenge of staying in Taquile and enjoy a few quiet days away from the overwhelming modern world.


AMANTANI ISLAND
38 km northeast of Puno. Beautiful natural lookout remains of Pre-Inca temples and pre-Hispanic cemeteries.


ESTEVES ISLAND:
Area that has important archaeological remains of the Tiahuanaco, Colla and Pucara cultures.


CULLPAS OF SILLUSTANI
Located In an archaeological site at 34 km. from the city of Puno.
